What are window tint knives and cutting tools used for?

Most of our blades and knives are built around one job: installing window film and paint protection film. That said, we carry a broad catalog — from safety cutters to rotary cutters — so whether you're trimming film on a car or cutting material on a flat glass commercial job, we've got the tool for it.

What's the difference between a 9mm snap off blade and a 30-degree blade for window film?

It comes down to the material you're cutting. A standard 9mm snap off blade is your everyday workhorse for window tint. When you're working with paint protection film — which is thicker — a 30-degree blade gives you more blade-to-film ratio and a longer, sharper angle to work with. The material you're cutting should drive the blade you're using.

How often should I be replacing or snapping my blades?

That's going to depend on your technique and how much you're cutting. Some guys snap a blade between every cut. Others will run through an entire side of a car before they snap. The honest answer is: more often than you think. A dull blade drags, and dragging tears film. Your blade is your most consumable tool — treat it like one.

What's the difference between carbon steel and stainless steel window tint knives?

Carbon blades are sharper and last longer, but stainless is a safer choice around glass. A stainless steel blade is far less likely to scratch or score a glass pane — and when you're working on commercial flat glass that can run thousands of dollars a pane, that matters. Most installers have both in their kit and know when to use each.

How do I choose the right window tint edge cutting tool for my install?

The material is going to tell you more than anything else. Window film has changed a lot — ceramic, metalized, multi-layer films are all thicker and work your blade harder than the old polyester dye films. Match your blade to what you're cutting, and when in doubt, reach out — we've seen enough installs to point you in the right direction.

What snap off blades for window film do you carry?
